Caledonia Presbyterian Church is proud to once again hold the bi-annual Kirkin of the Tartan on Sunday, September 27th at 10:30am.
The Kirkin of the Tartan was originally started in WWII by Reverend Peter Marshall, who wanted to get Scottish people back into thinking about the clans, while supporting the war effort.
The legend of the Kirkin’ goes back to 1745 when the English king decreed everyone in Scotland was banned from wearing the kilt, playing the bagpipe, and carrying a sword on pain of death. The Scottish people then hid pieces of their tartan in their clothing or in the roofs of their houses, and would bring them to church to be blessed.
Everyone is welcome to join in on the parade, starting from the Edinburgh Square Museum at 10:15 am led by the Caledonia and District Pipes and Drums.
Come to Caledonia and take part in a little bit of Scottish history!
